NO PROMISES Announces New Studio Record, “All Wet”
NO PROMISES is thrilled to announce the release of their second studio album, All Wet!

All Wet is a ten-track disc featuring favorites of pop music from the 60s to radio hits of today. Featuring NO PROMISES’ trademark harmonies and soaring lead vocals, nostalgic interpretations of tunes like the Jackson Five’s “I Want You Back” and Ambrosia’s “You’re The Biggest Part of Me” with more ambitious arrangements such as a vocal jazz version of Blondie’s “Call Me” and a mashup of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off with The Four Season’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You.”
All Wet CDs are available for $15 and be purchased on CD Baby or at any NO PROMISES concert. If you’d prefer a digital copy, the album is also available on iTunes and Spotify.
The album will receive its Cincinnati release on Thursday, August 30 as part of the group’s Album Release Concert at Memorial Hall! Tickets are $15 – $18 and can be purchased here.
All Wet features talented guest artists Schyler Vargas and Noah Berry. A Colorado native and award-winning vocalist, Vargas is currently performing at the Glimmerglass Festival, on summer break from his graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati’s renowned College-Conservatory of Music. Berry is a Dayton native and alumnus of Northern Kentucky University, who has spent much of his early career on the road with the national tour BUDDY: THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY. Later in the fall, Berry joins the national tour of Monty Python’s SPAMALOT. Both guest artists with join the ensemble for the Memorial Hall performance.

Two Righteous Musicians Spend Summer Vacation with NO PROMISES
We’ve spent the summer making music with two very talented dudes, who’ve added top notch vocals and superlative musicianship to our sextet. Noah Berry and Ken Holdt have been with us the past few months in rehearsal, in performance, in our new video (stay tuned!) and will be featured in our upcoming showcase performance at the ArtsMidwest Conference in Columbus.
Noah is a recent graduate of Northern Kentucky University, where he studied voice with our own Joshua Steele (who insists Noah was a talentless hack prior to beginning lessons with him). After a sterling collegiate career in NKU’s musical theatre program, Noah has been busy earning professional acting and music directing credits, as well as joining Josh as a featured soloist at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. He’ll return this fall to the national tour of THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY.
Freakish musician Ken Holdt joins us on summer break from his role as choral director at Sycamore High School in northern Cincinnati. Ken’s navigated his busy family life (three kids!), church music directing gig, assisting at a musical theatre summer camp, and playing for Foreigner (seriously) to make time to shame us with his extra-terrestrial sight reading and keyboard skills. A multi-instrumentalist with vast musical know-how, Ken has added exceptional value for us in the rehearsal room.
While only on loan for the summer, these two guys have seriously upped our game. We’re grateful for their time and talent, and hope you can catch them digitally and live in concert before they get back to the grind.

Want to Join NO PROMISES?
What is NO PROMISES?
NO PROMISES is a professional a cappella ensemble bringing exhilarating vocals and breathtaking harmonizations to popular favorites of jazz, Motown and adult contemporary music. Hailing from across Ohio, the eight men of No Promises are jazz pianists, Broadway veterans, theatre producers, hair stylists, and dads, with a passion for fine a cappella singing.
The current roster consists of Joshua Steele, Charlie Harper, Adam Wheeler, David Baum, Jeff Grooms, and Matt Croy. See more about all of us here.
Who are we looking for?
One or two male or female singers who have:
- An alto, alto/belter, tenor or bass voice
- Highly professional solo chops
- An excellent ear
- Strong musical skills (reading, intervals, chord qualities, etc.)
- A passion for a cappella music
- Reasonable evening and weekend availability
- Plans to maintain residence in the Cincinnati / Dayton / Columbus area
When do we rehearse?
We rehearse Tuesday nights at 6:30 pm in Miamisburg. For the right singer, we are willing to consider changing this to a different weeknight. Rehearsals may occasionally happen in Cincinnati and Beavercreek.
We rehearse our own parts outside of rehearsal. We keep a digital library of our scores, rehearsal recordings and midi files to help.
We like to have fun and find it’s easiest to have fun when we’re well-prepared and singing like champs.
When do we perform?
We performed 15 times in 2016. We scheduled our own spring and Christmas season tours and took a few gigs around the state when they fit our collective availability. We anticipate a similar performance load this year. We try not to rehearse during weeks when we have performances. All of us have full-time jobs, and most are parents, so we try to prioritize quality over quantity.
Will this generate income for me?
Not much, but it won’t cost you anything either. NO PROMISES covers gas expense to rehearsals and gigs. We also divide income from performances, reserving some for recording projects, equipment, marketing, etc.
I’m interested, what should I do?
- Complete this short form.
- We’ll get in touch to request a recording.
- If it’s looking like it could be a good fit, we’ll schedule a time to have you come sing with us.
We like to have fun at rehearsals and try to make the experience more an opportunity to sing together than a proper audition. We’ll explain the situation (who will be there, etc.) in advance. We’ll need you for around 30 minutes.

Christmas Tour – 2016
Our biggest tour to-date is in the books! NO PROMISES performed for nearly 1,500 people in six cities as part of our “Christmas With NO PROMISES” series in western Ohio. We’d like to thank our great partners and the communities of Findlay, Waterville, Cincinnati, Montgomery, Dayton and Columbus for helping us spread a cappella holiday cheer.
We’ve also sold hundreds of copies of our new Christmas album, which has also enjoyed streams and downloads from across the country on sites including iTunes and Spotify. It’s been a great springboard into 2017, during which we’ll be bringing on new singers, learning new repertoire, and honing the NO PROMISES concert experience.
Happy New Year, and looking forward to sharing some great music with you in 2017.
