No Promises Vocal Band is seeking a bass singer

What types of singers are needed?

A bass. Ideal range down to C2. Would pair with our current bass, Nat.

Singers should be able to sing close harmony parts and solo in multiple styles. Strong musicianship is a plus. Plans to remain in the Greater Cincinnati region in the long term is a must.

What is NO PROMISES?

“Their harmony is tight, their arrangements are delightfully eclectic… they sound like a cross between the Four Freshmen and Pentatonix.” – David Lyman, Cincinnati Enquirer

“For my money, the best a cappella group in the region” – Thom Mariner, Movers & Makers

NO PROMISES is a Cincinnati-based professional a cappella ensemble bringing exhilarating vocals and breathtaking harmonizations to jazz and popular music favorites from 1940s classics to today’s jams. Citybeat “Best of Cincinnati” winners in 2017 and 2022, the group has entertained at festivals, concert series, conventions and performing arts centers throughout the state. Its members have graced the stages of Broadway, fronted major symphony orchestras, and backed the likes of Jim Messina, Steve Winwood, Kenny Loggins and POCO. In their day-to-day lives, the men of NO PROMISES are clinical psychologists, theatrical talent buyers, real estate moguls and hairdressers with a passion for fine a cappella singing.

In 2023, NO PROMISES will premiere a newly commissioned work by composer Cecelia Olszewski as part of Cincinnati May Festival’s program 25 for 25: A New Time for Choral Music. 2021 saw the ensemble’s debut of “The Boy Band Diaries,” a collaboration with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra featuring male vocal hits spanning the past century. The group has released three recording projects: A No Promises Christmas (2016), All Wet (2018) and The Nines (2019).

The members of NO PROMISES are Joshua Steele (resident of Kennedy Heights), Kaeden Kass (Mt. Airy), David Baum (Montgomery), Jeff Grooms (Cold Spring, KY), and Nat Comisar (Indian Hill).

What’s the commitment?

NO PROMISES rehearses weekly on Tuesday nights in the Cincinnati area. Have a conflict on Tuesdays? We are willing to look at different rehearsal times for the right singer(s).

We are currently planning 12 – 14 performances in 2023, beginning with three programs in March.

A singer brought on board would join us as a guest artist for a trial period. Thereafter, we’d mutually evaluate permanent membership in the group.

In a normal year, we tend to perform 10 – 15 times, and regularly do recording projects.

I’m interested… what next?

Send a link of a video or audio recording to Joshua Steele. Doesn’t need to be a cappella, just something that shows off your chops. If we dig it, we’ll reach out about finding a night for you to come in and sing with us.
